Identity Development

As human beings, we’re all trying to make meaning of who we are and why we’re here.

At NobleTree Therapy we help you explore why identity is important while supporting you in making meaning of yourself and the world. Establishing a personal identity helps you determine values for your life and relationships. How do you understand how you live and show up in the world? What do you value and prioritize?

Identity development is introspective. In therapy for identity development, we’re working towards a deeper understanding and expression of yourself.

This can include a multitude of elements and intersections: sexuality, spirituality, relationships, and emotions.

Developing your identity includes processing shifts or expansions from a former identity to one that is authentic and true for you, at present. It’s normal and natural that over the course of our lives our sense of self changes and adapts. This process of finding one’s self is a lifelong journey, often impacted by the joys and struggles, traumas, and triumphs we experience along the way.

The goal is to continue to find greater personal identity that honors your true self. We want to support and give space to the identity that is the most meaningful expression of you.

What Is Spiritual Identity?

A big part of identity development and the human experience is our relationships to spirituality. Spiritual identity is a connection to something greater than ourselves. At NobleTree we view spirituality as whatever is true for you and that allows you to feel a connection to self, others, and beyond. There is no expectation of what or how this should look for you – it is your unique relationship to your spiritual self.

We recognize that your spiritual identity may have been severely impacted by religious trauma or spiritual abuse. When a lot of rigidity and shame is connected to these experiences, it can be difficult to find a safe space to explore your truest expression of spiritual identity.

At NobleTree Therapy, we help you explore the spiritual part of yourself and find ways to develop a greater understanding of what it means to be a spiritual person. This work is done by finding who you are beyond the religious or spiritual practices that caused you harm or resulted in a loss of sense of self.

Addressing what spiritual identity is can provide peace and regulation through the difficulty of the human experience.

Developing your spiritual identity is a worthwhile endeavor that can influence your sense of purpose and meaning. Whether you identify as religious, spiritual, atheist, or agnostic, we are here to help you find your fullest expression of your spiritual identity.

You don’t have to be religious to be spiritual, and you don’t have to consider yourself spiritual to work with us.

We want to help you find your truest, most authentic expression of yourself. Addressing the question “what is spiritual identity?” means exploring a core part of the human experience.
